My 5 month old has it, and has had it since he was 2 months, sometime he seems like he throws back up the whole bottle of formula, I have been to specialists and different docs and nothing works! He has taken zantax and some more meds but still nothing, they have aslo thickened his formula, and now he's on soy formula? Are there any home remedies I could try? You know sometimes grandma's old remedies sounded crazy, but they worked!

Make sure you discuss what ever you do with your doc! But our preemee little girl had it horribly!!! So sick for a long time, but we did (with docs permisson) thicken the formula. Raise the top of her crib, never laid her flat always an incline, peaceful feedings seemed to help us also. She had time to digest! Never lay down right after a feeding which is really hard at that 2 am feeding!! The meds will help with long term effects, but we did not see immed. results from all the meds she was on. He might need a stronger dose or more often, that is what we ended up doing. Our daughter now 15 months is growing out of it. So did our other children that had it at birth. Hopefully it will not be long before

I used to thicken his formula with cornflour:

boil water in a pan
Mix two tsp cornflour with two tbs water and pur in pan
allow to boil and simmer until thick
remove

i used to refidgerate them and add formula to the bottles, and it really helped his reflux. This is the recipe the hospital gaev me. Use a regular bottle, but make the whole in the teat a bit larger. Allow the baby to feed slowly and burp him halfway. Hold him upright for at least half an hour after he feeds. In the day, allow him to sit up for majority of the day. Good luck!

Both of our babies had it.

We gave them Prevacid, which seemed to control the pain. And Reglan, for a short while, to help their stomachs empty faster so there was less to come up.

That's all that really matters. All babies have reflux to some degree. The ones that need treatment are the ones that suffer, and/or then ones that lose weight.

If your baby is still gaining normally, and he's not crying and crying for hours every day (one of our daughters cried for 14 hours every day, no kidding), then you're doing OK. They WILL grow out of the problem.

As our pediatrician said, "As long as she's a HAPPY spitter, everything's A-OK."

Try putting cereal in there also. That seemed to help our baby. He was a preemie and it was bad--projectile vomiting was more like what it was than just spit up. Anyways, he was on Zantac and he's 9 mo. old now and he doesn't do it at all, barley spits up. Yes, it gets better with age.

My grandson has GERD (7 months). He has been on Lipil A/R shortly after comming home from hosp. It helps. We haven't had to put him on any meds yet. He seems to be doing much better. But like you have been advised, avoid laying the baby flat after feeding. We let my grandson sleep in his car seat right after eating.
