First, do you know what type of tomato plant it is? There are a few that will never get red, they are yellowish green at maturity. Assuming it is a red tomato plant I would say leave them on the plant to turn red. The only time I pick green tomatoes is if there is going to be a frost and I don't want them to be killed. Since you have yours in a container, you can even bring the whole thing indoors to enjoy fresh tomatoes a little longer. Some tomatoes can take up to 110 days to mature. If you want to try to speed up the ripening process you could try red plastic around the plant. I am trying it for the first time this year after reading about it the last 2 years. So far, so good. I've put a link for it in the sources. As long as the plant has consistent water, soil with enough nutrients, and adequate sunlight--the tomatoes should ripen and turn red eventually. Sometimes it does seem like they are green forever. Especially when you are in the mood for a fresh, ripe tomato. Have fun gardening.

They will stay green for a while and get larger. Once they turn red, they are ready to be picked. Be sure to water them every day. Tomatoes like a lot of water and sun. You will love the results.
Good luck!!

You can pick a few while they are green, put them in a brown paper bag and then store them under a cabinet and wait for them to turn red. My Mom did that alot. I never had luck at growing tomatoes at all and they always turned red on the vine but always had bad spots on them....Good Luck.....

Well just wait when they are ready they will turn red... But as a side note if you know when they are about to turn red you can pick them and they are just not vine rippened tomatoes so you will lose alot of the flavor and they will taste a little bland.

Pick them when they get ripe or pick them and set them in a window and let them ripen in the sun or have fried green tomatoes. Dip in egg and milk. Roll in cornmeal and fry.
