I wish to allow internet usage to my kids ( ages 14 and 11 ), but am disturbed how to safeguard them from nude and porno websites.
My kids computer has Win XP-Professiona installed, I have administrator password, and have created limited user accounts for both kids.
Should I be using some softwares like Cyber-Patrol, or Net-Nanny ? If yes then please advise which software is by far best ( though I understand that no software can give 100% protection ).

I don't know about any of that software, but I suggest that you put the computer in plain sight for the rest of the family. That will discourage them from using the computer inappropriately while you are at home, and will make it apparent when they use the computer. You might set aside a room strictly for computer use, and maintain a presence there too. Also, I think Internet Explorer has a content control system. Check the Internet Options dialog for that feature.

Kids are kids. You can have every website blocked but, no matter what, the Internet still won't be "safe" for them. They'll find something or their friends will send them something, rude people will expose them, and no software is on top of all the adult websites because they're being made every day in almost every language.

The best thing you can do is have trust in your children and view the history when they're done. If you catch them looking at what should not be viewed, take the Internet away. Be the parent, be the adult, don't rely on some crummy programs many kids can just disable to "protect" them.

I used Net nanny a little bit. It's nice because you can set profiles for who has access to what on the internet. But for quick, no hassle setup, you can lock out everyone from all porno websites autmomatically because the program includes a list of offending websites and knows to not display any websites with offending words. It's nice you can simply unlock the restrictions anytime with a password.

I would think you could use your parental controls. Also by blocking web pop-ups. Communication with the children would be a nice gesture also. Blocking pop-ups is best, I think. I have a friend who has a 6 year old, He gave him his own screen name and password. No porn comes up on his screen name either. Hope this does you some good. Be Careful with your children, Please. Too many sick predator's in this internet business. Good Luck!!

I have never seen sex website because I dont search for them. You need pop up blockers (yahoo offers it for free on their free tool bar you can download). Put the computer in the middle of the living room, etc where you can see what they are doing. The danger isnt internet porn (you usually have to pay for stuff like that) it is molesters talking to your kids via Myspace.com, friendster.com, AOL AIM, MSN messenger, Yahoo messenger, etc. Watch what your kids are doing. Ask you they are talking to. Tell them not to talk to strangers and not to talk to anyone that says sexual dirty things.

Thats quite impossible. Certain software to block websites are only compatible with certain browsers. IE is the most common one. Firefox too. But they can still download browsers like Opera or Netscape ( or something so ).
