3 Habits to Break

Bad Habit #1: You dry shave Shaving legs or underarms dry can cause irritation, ingrown hairs, and razor burn. To nurture skin, soften it in the shower for about 10 minutes. Then apply a layer of shaving cream (not soap, which will dull the razor and invite cuts) and shave in long strokes. Slather on body lotion post-shower.

Bad Habit #2: You ignore incidental sun exposure Sure, walking from your car to the office in the sun may not be as damaging as spending hours baking on the beach. But just a few minutes of exposure here and there can bring on wrinkles just the same. Wear a daily SPF lotion formulated for the face. Brands such as Clinique and Neutrogena make versions that work well under makeup.

Bad Habit #3: You avoid exfoliation A buildup of dead skin cells can cause itchiness and rashes, especially in unpredictable or dry weather. Scrub daily with a puff, a loofah, or a grainy exfoliator to help sweep rough skin away. Afterward, use moisturizer to lock in softness.

Skincare Tips

Protect yourself from the sun -- use sunscreen and avoid direct sunlight between the hours of 10 and 2.

Don't -- I repeat -- don't smoke. Your skin is a large organ and it needs a lot of circulation. Smoking impairs that dramatically. That's why smokers' skin looks dull and gray. Instead of having oxy-generated blood delivered to the surface of the skin, they're getting poisons and oxidants.

Get adequate rest and nutrition.

Protect yourself from stress -- both emotional and environmental stress.

Wash your face twice a day and put on the proper treatment product. I'm amazed when women tell me they don't wash their face in the morning. A lot of icky stuff collects overnight -- dead skin cells, dirt, and dust!

Don't neglect certain areas of the skin. Elbows, heels, neck, and decolletage need moisturizing, and your scalp and the tops of your feet need sun protection.

Touch your face less and wash your hands more! Don't get too surgical on yourself. It's very tempting to pick, poke, squeeze, and scratch in front of the mirror. But the more you traumatize the skin, the greater your risk of scarring. Apply treatment products and let them work.

Keep your makeup clean. Replace the sponges in your compact on a regular basis. Now and then, toss the whole works and start fresh -- the average shelf life for cosmetics is 6 to 12 months. Don't buy products so expensive that you'll be heartbroken if you have to throw them away.

Exercise moderation. More is not always better. Moisturizer, for example, is the most overused product in America. We've been bamboozled by cosmetic companies into thinking every square inch of our body has to be slathered. And it's simply not true. Exfoliators are another thing to be careful with. Used too often, they overacidify and irritate your skin.

Beware of counter girls. If it were up to them, you'd be in the bathroom for two and a half hours each morning -- putting 80 layers on your face. Keep your regimen simple. And when you do add a new product, do it gradually so your skin has time to adjust. Each skincare or makeup product has an average of 20 to 40 ingredients -- you're introducing 20 to 40 potential allergens to your face every time you try something new.

That is great.

Start by dinking lots of water or flavored water, exfoliate your skin at least 1 or 2X a week. If you have moderate to serous acne PRoactiv is a WONDERFUL cleanser and heals most skin issues.

Moisturize your skin, do you have dry, oily or combination skin which can be dry and oily on different part of your face.

Neutorgena is a nice cleanser they even have a warming formula now that is supposed to be really good.

Get plenty of fresh air and sushine and exersize when able oout doors at least 3X a week.

Good luck.

Keep the greasy makeup off of your skin, wash with VERY mild soap and cool or warm water a couple of times a day, and moisturize your skin BEFORE you go out into the hot sun.

Stay away from soda pop, beer, and a lot of candy.

I'm not sure that I recommend this, but this is what I do.....
I clean my face at least twice daily with rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab, burnt like crazy at first and probably is a really dumb idea but it kills ALL the bacteria. After doing this I put a bit of a stuff called chi silk on my face. It's actually made for hair but you won't believe the wonders it works on skin. On problems spots I will dry it out with benzyl peroxide and then put petroleum jelly on it. Sleep with petroleum jelly on your lips. On skin not on your face remember to exfoliate (with a loofah) and then put on lotion.
