It depends on what you mean by cultured, exactly. But I would pick Chicago, with the added bonus that the people of Chicago have more depth, individualism, and are more interesting as human beings.

What do you mean by cultured? I've lived in LA. Due to the influence of the movie industry, the area is phony and superficial. Yes there are lots of museums and several universities there, but often Angelinos live fast and die young. If you live to be much over 30, you'd better be able to afford plastic surgery and a trainer. What I'm saying is that the accent in LA is on money, youth, and fast, expensive cars--whatever LOOKS good. Can't help you with Chicago, though I suppose there's a lot of old money there. Again, it all depends on what you mean by culture.

Chicago has the Art Institute. That alone makes it more cultured. But if that were not enough it also has the Cubs and the White Sox. Another big plus.
