I find the lipstick to be a more effective treatment than medicated chap sticks.... why is that?

What is in lipstick that heals chapped, cracked lips so well?

FYI on where that came from:
My hubby was a Navy Seal and they wore lip stick while in deserts and jungles to heal the dryness and cracking of their lips.... it was something his superior passed along and he told me about it, I was amazed at how well it worked and am curious why.

There are waxes, oils, and other agents that softens or soothes the skin.

Some of the stuff inside lip stick include: vitamin E, mineral oil, beeswax, castor oil, sun screen, cocoa butter, lanolin, and aloe.

It's the beeswax used in the lipstick. What makes it stick to your lips makes the air stay out and the moisture stay in. It's kind of like a really, really thick colored lotion. Lipsticks (and beeswax) contain protiens which r absorbed into the body.

Medicated chapsticks don't work for me either! They just rub off like lip gloss. I think there's wax in lipstick, so it has greater staying power. Also with lipstick you can see the color wearing off, so you know when to reapply!
