First of all, you need to make sure that you are speaking with the manager. A good way to be sure of this is to say,
"Hello, I was wondering if I could talk to the manager, or whoever is in charge of hiring."
They should connect you to that person. If they say they are not available and ask for a message, leave your name and say that you are checking on an application that you recently submitted. Ask if there would be any better time to call back.
--------If you are connected with a manager------------------
Don't try and kiss up by asking about their day. They will see through it, and most likely be annoyed. Just be formal and to the point. Say something along the lines of:
"Hi, my name is __________. I turned in an application recently, and I was wondering if you have had a chance to look them over." (wait for them to respond.)
Reply to what they say to you, and then make the point that you would really enjoy being given an opportunity to work for them.

Good words to use:
opportunity (what a good one it is)
potential (all that you have to offer)
status (of your application)
Please, Thank you, and (when ending the conversation) thank you for your time and consideration!

Good luck!

You should wait 2-7 days, then call and ask to speak to the person you sent the application to (hopefully you named a person specifically- like the hiring manager or personnel director....or if you walked in the door and filled it out, ask to speak to the hiring manager)

then...ask if they received your resume and if they've had a chance to review it yet.

If they have not, politely ask when they will be able to review it and when would be a good time for you to call back.

If they have reviewed it, they will probably immediately say something about their decision. If they decided NOT to hire you, ask politely "Okay, well I respect your decision, but would you please disclose to me the reason you're not hiring me, so that I won't make that mistake with the next company?"

When they disclose the reason, take responsibility for whatever they say (acknowledge that they are correct in that area and that you are working on trying to change that or that you will in the future)... thank them for telling you... and then ask that same person if there is any way you can redeem yourself with them.

If they haven't made a decision yet, or if they seem to be blowing you off....... then ask if there is anything you can do to make yourself more appealing to them as an employee.

If they say "what do you mean?" Say "well I want a job with your company. Would you be more excited about my resume/application ..if I took a class at the college in...(whatever RELATED area depending on the job you're applying for)... Do I dress appropriately to fit in with the atmosphere I've applied to work in at your company? or is there something about me or my application that I would be able to do or change that would make you more impressed with me as a candidate for employment?

Good luck.

You should definitely call after a couple days, this lets them know you are really interested in that position. Just make it short, professional and to the point, and also at the end say "thank you for your time" or something to that effect

Hi

First, please give a week or week an half. Then..

You need to call and talk to the HR - Human Resources. Have the reference number handy if you got one. And just call and say politley;

"Hi, can you put me through the Human Resources. It's regarding my application form for the vacancy _______."

Then say, if you have a reference number, "do you need the reference number. I have it with me."

The person might say, "what's your query."

I just want to know if they've recieved my application and just wondered if you can tell me when will they be reply to applicants.

Hope thats helpful.

Give him your name and tell him you just wanted to checks the status of your application. And to let him know you look forward to meeting him at your interview. You want to seem confident. Not cocky, just confident. You know you are the perfect person for the job, now you need to make him aware of it.

i'd attempt the personal frame of mind. take your resume with you and attempt to ascertain the owner. clarify to her that you're accessible in now for paintings. Be prepared to paintings that day if desire/probability arises. Many time is busy paintings circumstances the guy there waiting to paintings would merely get the interest. Bing in the right position on the right time. you're there waiting to paintings and the papers to help your software are in hand.
