The main trick in gortez manufature is that the polymer (i.e. plastic), that is used in Gortex is stretched as it cools and sets, creating billions (trillions) of uniform sized holes that are just the right size for water vapor molecules to pass through and away from our bodies or the tent wall but are too smal for liquid water to get in from the outside. (i.e. rain droplets.)
