Nope. Soccer doesn't fit in with the American mindset. First of all, soccer is nationalistic, and the U.S. isn't. We like to divide up and go at each other, not unite as one big team to play other countries. Second, we're an insular nation. Since the overwhelming number of Americans wouldn't be able to find a single World Cup participant on a map, it's unlikely they would enjoy the competition. The rest of the world is a mystery to us. Third, the U.S. has developed an "MTV/ADD" mindset. Soccer is too slow for us to pay attention. All sad, but all true.

No !
Couple of reasons: 1) It was considered a woman's sport for a long time here and baseball, football, basketball and hockey were the so-called 'men' sports, although I have to say that soccer needs a lot more brawn than a game like football, where they are padded and are out of breath after a 10 yard rush,
2) commercial. The other sports, sucha as baseball (slow gamme), basketball (time-outs) and football (everytime somebody is down it takes another miniute or so to start the game up again)..all theseallow plenty of time to insert a commercial or for people to make a trip to the fridge.

No, soccer will never become popular in the USA. It's a boring sport to watch and play. Soccer will never compete with basketball, American football, or even baseball.

Maybe, when they finally realize that football and baseball aren't that exciting and as widely available to everyone as soccer... (honestly, everyone I know doesn't understand the point of American football).

But, of course, hockey rules! =)

Hardly. Even if they make it to the final, I still doubt the vast majority of Americans will go crazy.
