The less monkeying around with it, the better off we'll all be. Despite George Bush's outright lie, Social Security won't begin to dip into it's reserves for another fifteen years *at least* and won't actually begin running out of money for nearly 27 years. That's plenty of time to make some minor adjustments. One, those who have managed to provide themselves a healthy chunk of change upon which to retire should not be permitted to draw on the system. At present, even if you've saved a million dollars for retirement, you can still draw Social Security benefits.
Secondly, a very slight increase in contributions to the system is all that's needed to ensure it's viability for the next forty years.
Beyond that, working folks do need to plan, starting in high school, for their retirement. Start putting money aside in a 401K or other plan and never, but NEVER, touch it until retirement. Do not borrow against it, do not take some of it to put an addition on your house or upgrade your wheels or any of that crap. And when it comes time to draw upon these savings, there should be a cutoff above which no Social Security benefits are due - what this is called is "means testing".
There also needs to be a national system that guarantees a living income to those working folks who, through no fault of their own, become disabled and no longer capable of self-support. Employers and employees alike can contribute to this system.
One more thing: NO politican should EVER be allowed to draw upon social security - they're all rich enough to look after themselves, the scumsuckers!

If you have not realized that Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme- like system by now, there is no hope for you. It was a sham from the beginning, but demographics kept feeding the beast. The retiring baby boomers will bring the country to its knees becaue of their cost (in SSI benefits and health care).
There is no trust fund fellas and girls. Your money goes to pay today's beneficiaries and any surplus is spent by your lovely Congress and replaced with IOUs (Treasuries, basically more debt). Nice gig, however, we will soon pay dearly for the past misdeeds of Congress.

Jesus Christ became no longer conservative. He lived a clean way of accepting others and residing in peace. Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Ben Franklin, John Adams - all the Founding Fathers - were no longer conservatives. They were traitors and rebels, forsaking the political orthodoxy of their day. Martin Luther became no longer a conservative. He challenged the authority of the church. Martin Luther King Jr. became shot for his potential and tricky the immoral remedy of different human beings - different individuals. females can vote because suffragist leaders who fought the conservative ideology of their day. African individuals are "finished" voters in the present day because abolitionists in many cases occurring that, they too, were human beings, opposite to the conservative voices of their day. Any modern progression in human heritage wherein we be taught - dare I say, evolve - to a more effective positive way of treating one yet another or governing ourselves is a effect of the liberal thinkers of their day. The conservative voice has continuously - on any significant social, political or moral problem - been on the dropping and incorrect facet of the argument. for the time of human heritage. And that conservative voice has continuously been the embarrassment of destiny generations. If what I say or my political opinions reason some discomfort for others I preserve my position understanding I refuse to be the embarrassment to my little ones that the conservatives of my moms and dads' era have shown to be. i'm proud to be a liberal. that is the moral lifestyle. that is the most recommendations-blowing facet of the argument.

quit spending it today .Ihave a plan in mind that will accomplish these goals.BUILD descent houseing at cost and rent it out to low income families in ten years roll the project over to the private sector for profit and let them turn them into condos for sale.rent would be based on income and you would only pay 10% of family earnings .renters would be encouraged to save money to buy homes in the private sector. and would be eligable for 20 years of benifits prefrence given first to families and then single mothers and fathers with single people being the last to qualify any and all people applying need only a job any kind of check or pay stub regardless of how low first goes through a clearing system that deducts this 10% of income all expenditures of any house hold must be verified through income and be with in the means of reported earnings so occasionaly they would need to produce records to show how the big screen T.V was purchased and it should fall with in there means of income.
THESE propertys would naturaly go up in value and we would never lose a penny and in the mean time help those most in need of assistance by providing stable homes for children and our future .

Don't depend on a bunch of crooked politicians for your retirement. Plan for it your self.
I changed my mind. Pass a law that they have to be on social security, then they might fix it.

They can't do anything about it in my opinion. It's a sinking ship with limited time left above water.
