There are numbers of reliable Money Transfer Companies, but I'd strongly recommend you LE'S INTERCONTINENTAL MONEY TRANSFER INC. (aka. " Le Gởi Tiền Lẹ ", as Kim mentioned above). We've used this very trusworthy company for our money transferring for the past 15 years or so w/o any problem. There'll be a minimal service fee depending on how much you wish to send. They'll also require you to provide the address & telephone # of your girlfriend, they'll have their agents bringing the money right to her doorstep. She doesn't have to go any where to receive it. Keep in mind, if your girlfriend's the one you've appointed to receive the money, no one esle can receive it, not even her closest relatives; so, make sure she's there for it.
Depending where you reside, below are their headquaters tel. #'s. Drop them a ring for the tel. #'s. of their satellite agencies closest to you. They provide professional service throughout the whole continental US & Canada. Hope it answers your question.
Good luck on everything !

Don't lose any sleep over the ignorant comments. It's just like when you open the door for fresh air, there're always intrusive anoying insects sneaking in.

*A note for Irish:
It's true that Saigon's been geographically changed to HCM City for a political purpose after the Communist's takeover in '75. However, for most Vietnamese who presently live in VN, especially the ones in Saigon & those living abroad, SAIGON's still SAIGON. Furthermore, it's politically correct for the Vietnamese who live overseas to call it w/ its original name: SAIGON. (Ever wonder why exists no longer Stalingrad or Leningrad ?).

Remittances from the U.S. are a big part of the Vietnamese economy. All of the banks over here have services for it. Alot of banks have Western Union inside them, so if you send it with Western Union, she can go to a bank a pick it up. I wouldn't send anything by mail to Vietnam. If it's worth anything it will probably not get delivered. To send a card or letter in a small envelope you would probably pay less than a dollar. My parents sent a large envelope over here and it only cost $3.00. But definitely don't send cash whatever you do.

The answers to use Western Union or the money service are spot on . My reason to write is clarify the use of Saigon for HCMC. I lived in Hanoi for two years and never heard a Vietnamese refer to HCMC by any name other than Saigon ! The first time I heard this I was shocked because I thought it was not politcally correct.
And by the way when you fly to HCMC all the airlines -- even Vietnam Airlines-- put on luggage tags that read "SAI" for your destination to HCMC .
So our questioner was very correct and very right to refer to hs girlfriend's city as Saigon -- everyone else does !

NEVER send anything of value in an envelope to viet nam ..NEVER! [ 1 or 2 photos only] there used to be a very reliable company in ny city called "VINA USA" they would for a small fee deliver right to your girls home..... i understand that they are out of business in new york but still operate out of california. if you can contact them , use them .. they have a perfect record[ with me]. i understand "western union" is the way most people go now.. last time i was in vn[ 6 months ago] they had offices in all the large cities. and they are becomming more popular all the time here in the states. i think you will have to contact your girl and have her go to their office though. go to your local western uion office for details . a letter to viet nam is i believe 80 cents [ check at the post office.. she will get that 10 - 30 days depending on where she is... i write all the time. also viet namese have access to computors and "E" mail all over the country. and its more affordable for them than sending letters. have her try and set up an "e"mail address. to add no i would say western union is NOT risky[ its probably guarenteed... vina usa is the mail is not... if you send money or a lot of pictures in an envelope you will probably loose everything]

What the heck will a few extra bucks do for her? Keep her talking to you and sending her more money...is it like a down payment..or is it a monthly payment plan? Why don't you do a trial run...send literally send her a few extra bucks..you know, so there's no risk involved, who cares if it's lost or stolen, it's only a few extra bucks...see if she gets it, then do it again and again until you get to the real denomination that she wants. usps.com should have your postage rates. saigon is a little more advanced than to not have a wu.

Western union would be the best bet. Local Yahoo has a search facility in the US to find a location near you.

Ever heard of Western Union?
Or third-world teenagers posing as women in the chatrooms and milking rich westerners out of their money?
