Always felt that he "tanked" or quit when he had to come from behind...don't give me that match where he continued when he was throwing up.....he was just milking it......he was always a front runner and not a come from behind type guy....he was a quitter when the going got tough.....anyone aggree?....how many more majors would he have won if he had "Agassi/McEnroe or Conners heart"

"Tanker" in this example is that he "gave up"...he was a front runner...thru out his career he would give in the middle of some matches and play an all out game that was not his style...."yes" he had a power game but when he was behind and losing he just gave up by all of a sudden playing a all out "POWER ALL OR NOTHING" game......he gave up!!

I do not think Pete was a tanker. He was/is an amazing player that loves the game.

If you want to call the BEST male plaer to ever play tennis a tanker ok have fun...Pete was a great serve and volleyer that crushed opponents...the difficult thing about being at the net is that when u dont hit an effective approach shot then the ball gets clobbered at you and you hit it long, in the net, or get passed. When the other person's groundstrokes are on and your best technique is to be at the net then your most likely going to get passed and lose the match!!! And, no kidding when you come into the net you have to use power because if you dont its going to get crushed so it was a matter of whether or not he was on, or his opponent was on.

I think he just wanted to retire while he was still champ. Most world champions stick around too long and then retire in disgrace.
