I read Hamlet for school and he said something about women painting their faces to look different than what the lord intended.

When you read Hamlet, you have to remember that Shakespeare was creating a specific type of character. Shakespeare wanted Hamlet to look condescending towards women because his mother betrayed his father by marrying so quickly after his death. Shakespeare probably didn't believe this. I suppose everyone has a right to believe what they want, but many women use makeup to accentuate their beauty. There's nothing wrong with that.

~~~Edit~~~
By the way, Shakespeare was actually very revolutionary in his way of thinking. He was not a womanizer and it is believed that he respected women. In fact, it was Shakespeare's writing that created the idea of "true love," a mix between platonic love and lustful love. He was the ultimate (or perhaps first) romantic.
Shakespeare also wrote Othello and Romeo and Juliet too. Hamlet was a very dark piece as I recall. Don't forget in the end Hamlet has scored a major hit by his mother the Queen drinking from the poison cup. Thus dying. By the way if you want to analyze someones lack of self-esteem look no further then the queen who married her own brother-in-law within a month of her own husbands death now there is somebody without self-esteem.
I truly don't believe Shakespeare in all his glory meant to tie the two together. A women self esteem is clearly not based on makeup alone otherwise she would be a very vain women. And I doubt your mom is.
uhh a ton of ppl wear makeup
does it mean that all of them have problems with self esteem? i dont think so
hamlet is like 200 yrs old times have changed a lot of ppl can afford makeup now and it does enhance the beauty not cover up the face and make it different (it doesnt change the way the lord wanted ur face to look like)
How do you buy your clothes? Do you find something that can fit you, or do you look for something that actually looks amazing on you? If you actually look for clothes that make your body look better, then how is it that you dont have low self esteem?
See what I'm getting at? Its not that making yourself look better is a sign of low self esteem, but its a sign that you want to look better than you already do. I wear makeup half of the time. Sometimes I go without makeup all together, but sometimes I wear more than you can imagine, even though it always looks completely natural.
As women get older, they get things like wrinkles and parts of their skin can change color a little bit. So older women wear makeup to hide things like that so that it appears as if they are younger. Young women who dont need makeup wear it not because they dont like how they look, but makeup is a great aid for making you look more like you.
Look, this is simple, and no huge cause for concern--
If there's a near clown-like quality to her makeup, then there's a problem. If you can clearly tell she has makeup on from 25 feet away, there's a problem. If a cloud of dust forms around her every time she walks (from all the pwoder), then you have a problem. If you called the cops once because you managed to see her without makeup and thought she was a burglar, then there's a problem.
Otherwise, it's your problem-- not hers...
Oh my . . . I don't think, Hamlet meant it that way.
If your mom is using make-up to enhance her natural beauty or make her flaws less noticeable, then that does not mean she needs "more self esteem". It just means that she is a typical girly girl who loves using make-up and other stuff that girls ( and I mean women) love to use!
Nah, she probably has enough self esteem. Just because a woman wears make-up doesn't mean that they don't have self esteem. They just want to look the very best that they can.
NO !!! Absolutely NOT ! There Is nothing wrong with wearing make-up as long as you ENHANCE your GOD given features.
Are your ears pierced ? As long as you don't look like a clown and you're modest with your apparel....there's nothing wrong with It.Now If she starts getting plastic surgery,then maybe you could day she has low self esteem.Even then, I think It's up to that person and God.
lol
a lot of women think about their makeup the same as any other thing they wear....they don't leave home without it
girls begin wearing makeup because of insecurities but continue wearing it once they decide how they like to wear it and how they think it looks best.
my bet is that it isn't insecurity that makes her wear makeup, its just her way of life.
Shakespeare is a bad judge of women, in his day women were owned as property and thought of the same as a slave or animal
i dont believe that she doesnt have self esteem, its shakespeare which was written a long time ago, i think she just wants to look better, but that doesnt me that she doesnt have self esteem. Certain types of make up can bring out natural features, example some mascaras can bring out your eyes
