1. Barry Sanders (not enough drive to want to break all the records, but he could have easily)

2. Walter Payton (The greatest RB ever 'til Barry Sanders came along)

3.Jim Brown (best power/speed combo I've ever seen)

4. Emmitt Smith (incredible determination to be the best)

5. (tie) Tony Dorsett (amazingly fast, he just plain out ran people, and he had the possibility of taking it all the way every time he touched the ball)

5. (tie) "The Bus" Jerome Bettis (for a guy his size to be able to run like he did and to last as long as he did his heart is un-matched)

1. Elgin Baylor. The guy did what Dr. J and MJ did before there were major TV deals and multiple endorsements. He defined the small forward position by playing above the rim. 2. Julius Erving. Didn't talk trash, didn't do stupid things in the press - just played games. He also played above the rim. Later in his career he could consistently hit the jump shot, which was all he was lacking in his first 4-6 seasons. 3. Scottie Pippin. Mr. Do Everything. MJ couldn't get out of the first round of the playoffs until the Bulls got Pippin. The year MJ "retired" Pippen proved that he could carry the Bulls. 4. Larry Bird. No other single player improved his team's record. The year before he was drafted the Celtics were 29-63; the next year with ONLY the addition of Bird, they were 61-21. All teams that have improved more have done so with more than one player. Money jump shot from day 1, the uncanny ability to be in the right place at the right time for the rebound (not a real jumper) and made his teammates better. 5. Connie Hawkins. The guy had an amazing court presence. Even well after his prime he commanded double and triple teams. And no other player could hold the ball in one hand the way he could - it's been said that when he and Wilt shook hands that Wilt couldn't find his hand. His career numbers aren't as good as some others, but he was blackballed by the NBA until he was 27.

1. Jim Brown. Nobody could tackle this guy and he was always going forward..
2. O.J. Simpson. It's not easy for me put a murderer on my list but his football skills were awesome.
3. Barry Sanders. Nobody ever had better moves or elusiveness; lost yardage too many times to be higher.
4. Walter Payton. Sometimes the stats don't lie.
5. Gale Sayers. If he hadn't been hurt he would own all the records. Speed and moves and strength. The whole package.

Sanders, Payton, Brown, just as you said, but Emmitt was a product of an amazing offensive line.

4. O.J. Simpson. He was just amazing with the ball in his hands.
5. Marshall Faulk. There wasn't anything he couldn't do on the field.

I liked Bettis and Dorsett both and they would come in the top ten or fiften. Smith is probably somewhere in the high 20s to 30s.
