Keven:
Atheists have decided by reason that God does not exist.
By their choices they have closed the door to knowing God.
Somtimes this world treats people harshly and they can't imagine that if there where a God, how he would allow such terrable things to happen. So by reasoning close off their exceptance to his existance. Lack of education and negitivity does not allow the person awareness. The Big Tool is Faith. Without faith in what we do not see, we don't allow it to be.
You cannot prove God exists, you have to conceive and believe.
You must believe as a child without reason. When you do this, God will knock on your door and reveal himself in so many ways, But not if you bar your doors and pretend he does not exist. People turn their backs on God, but God is eternally there with his arms open wide to except us back home. One question an Atheist cannot give answer to is how the Universe came into existance. You can shut your eyes and pretend what you see is not there, but when you open them again, nothing had changed.
Atheists are like the austrage who puts his head in the sand out of fear. Nothing has changed by doing so.
They are antagonistic because they are defensive. They are not really sure but claim to be, so they will attack those who believe because they want to be right and be important without God. They miss a golden opportunity to experinece a Joy that is beyond measure, That is to Know! GOD is All that is. Simple if only you believe.

While I do not profess atheism, I suspect that atheist see the Bible as a work of fiction and as such should not be held in higher regard than any other work of fiction.
In higher education I have come to find that many people in the sciences turn away from the belief of institutionalized religion because it offers no proof to its validity and requires that faith and only faith will allow you to follow the path.
Maybe the agnostics have it right, from their vantage point a person might be able to study and learn with an open mind.

Because atheists are the devil. The athiest is EVIL and deserves earthly punishment ONTOP of eternal damnation.

I'm not making that assumption on "true-believers". But they are on Me. It's COMPLETELY intolerable. You can't respect people and live with them OR EVEN talk to them if you think they are evil incarnate and devil. IT'S WORSE than racism, sexism, ageism, elitism. IT'S THE FOUNDATION for all such -isms.

As long as you believe the text is completely true, revealed, with no contradiction.. you must take the WHOLE thing to stand for the good. We can't simply parse out the violent portions. The whole book is a battle for Good over Evil. WE CAN'T LIVE IN THAT WORLD. That's why death is salvation. That's not at all helpful to THIS World, the ONE WE LIVE IN NOW.

I agree with Jay.

The issue is not antagonism or intolerance on the part of the atheists. It's having to go through every day being told, explicitly by many and implicitly by even more, that your beliefs are wrong.

If you honestly and sincerely do not believe in God, then being faced with "In God We Trust" and "One Nation Under God" and "God Bless America" every day constantly can get tiring.

Say you are religious, and believe strongly that there is one God. Try to imagine how you would feel if every day you were faced with buildings and currency and newspapers and monuments all dedicated to the Greek Pantheon. Constantly being told that there are many gods, and that your beliefs are delusional because everyone knows that there are many gods. It would get tiresome and frustrating.

Same thing for any minority belief that is devalued and dismissed by the majority. Being constantly told that you are wrong, just because you have different beliefs, is frustrating and that leads to antagonism.

Atheist's are selfpronounced non-believers.
See my point.
If they just did not believe they would not call themselves atheists. Unlike most religions atheisme is a religion that does not tolerate having a god, God or the idea of a god around.

But then again, the ones you hear are the vocal ones and what else would a non-believer say? Most atheists don't care about the bible at all.

Well, the Bible (as other 'holy books') are taken too literally by many!
And one main problem with organized religion is the *I'm right, you're wrong* attitude.
I believe there is a viable foundation for most religious beliefs.

I also believe in a 'creator', but not one who knows me or loves me as I was brought up to accept when I was a child.

But...getting back to Atheism...(the lunatic fringe ), as most atheists are really agnostic), that in itself is sort of an 'anti-religion'...*L*.
Actually, it's very bad science to absolutely dismiss the possibility of a creator...(God).

Perhaps our species is not equipped enough...(at this point of our evolution) to really understand.

I believe it was Jesus who said, ' Heaven is all around us, we just can't see it'...(something like that).

And no....religion is not a science, it is 'faith'. ;)

They are afraid of what would happen if the Bible turned out to be correct.

As far as I am concerned, Atheists are just as closeminded as the religious folk supposedly are that they condemn. I know this because I used to be one.

Because religious people are so annoyingly persistent about spewing their beliefs. Also, they generally are very stubborn in their beliefs and always think they are right and we are crazy. Athiests generally don't push their thoughts on anyone and we get defensive about the bombardment of preaching forced on us and the fact that we are constantly told that we are "wrong" or "sinners". When you are accused of something you put your defenses up and attack back. Sorry dude but religious people get really annoying really fast...
