No it's not laziness, otherwise they wouldn't have taken the time to sign up for Answers and post the question.

Some people don't know how to use search directories very well yet.
Some people are new to the Internet.

Some questions are asked by very professional people who want direct answers from individuals, not from research on the Internet.

And have you ever got lost on the Internet searching for information? I have - it sucks! Some sites make you register or sign up or pay for information and they blast you with pop-ups and "You've Just Won an Apple iPod" when all you've won is a sorry web site tricking you into a survey and there is no prize - or laziness - in that!

I think some people just like the interactivity of this site. Sure they could search for some of the answers online. In some cases they may be overwhelmed by the number of sites an online search brings up. This happens when the search terms are too broad.
It seems like a lot of the questions are seeking opinions rather than facts. This question/answer set up fits well for that.

Some of the people on this site are looking for opinion-based answers, not just raw facts. So no, not all people are too lazy to research their questions.

For someone asking such a question, it sure seems you have spent enough time on here! Some people don't know where to look, some people want opinions, and some people want to chat. You already know all of that, though, don't you? You are just a "cool kid", aren't you? I suppose you are in a class all to itself. You like to ask questions for a laugh.

well.. some are lazy .. no doubt...why we ask questions here? well, it is site where you are invisible.. it feels somehow secure to ask questions i would not normally ask in other situations specially regarding health, sex or personal lives...

but my understanding after spending almost a month in Yahoo! answers is that regardless of sex, ethnicity or nationality ,, all of us have same kinds of problems. falling in love is ecstatic, loosing a loved one is sad. our feelings remain the same everywhere.. always.

it is global network of friendship.. you understand and connect with others through the internet... you feel good knowing that some one is there with an answer that your search engine or your life has failed to give you

Maybe they haven't found any answers to what they were looking for online, so they went here to ask people, in case someone else found something he couldn't.

Oh! And by the way! I saw that there is no way I could contact you, then answering your question. So, you answered me a question about Japanese people. So I understand that you either are Japanese or you know Japanese very well. So, can you please give me your e-mail so that I can send you a video for you to translate it for me if you want? Please! Please! I really need to know the English translation!

Text book knowledge is one thing, experience is another. Asking questions gives you the opportunity to get answers from others that may be more experience-based than bookish knowledge. Of course, it all depends on the type of question answered as well.
