The one thing I see the families have in common is a problem with trust. A parent of an abused child will probably have a very difficult time letting the kid out of their sight, in trusting anyone to be a babysitter. The family of the abuser has major issues with trust, of course; not wanting to let him alone with a child, not believing anything he says about the incident, etc.

Of course, having a child traumatized is also another whole set of problems for the family of the abused.
