looking for a school use laptop. not to expensive, yet durable and reliable. Which brand is better? any other brands out there?

I've got a Dell, had it for a couple of years no problems.

All are good brands but on the entry level i would favour the Dell, but tht HP's are likely to be cheaper.

I think they are all equal, so go for the best price. I got a Used Dell for $350 and it works great

get something else than Toshiba if you need a laptop that needs to run for hours,Toshiba laptops overheat a lot and you would have to carry a ventilator with you to school.
