It depends what the maximum amount of ram your pc can take is. I have an emachines windows milenium that wont go past 256mb. If it has 3 slots then yea it probaly can go past 256

its not highly recommended. The best performance is when you place 2 of the same modules together.

256mbx2 or 512 mb x2. You can put a 256 w/ 512 but ....

YA SURE IF U R SYSTEM MEMORY IS EXTENDABLE TO 1GB OR HIGHER. ALSO BOTH RAM TO BE OF SAME TYPE I.E. IF U R 256 MB RAM IS SDRAM U CANT USE A DDR RAM OF 512 MB. BOTH SHOULD BE DDR OR SDRAM. ALSO ONE LAST THING FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE BOTH RAM SHOULD HAVE SAME SAME SPEED. FOR EXAMPLE IF 256 MB RAM IS 100 MHz THEN GET 512 MB OF SAME SPEED. IT WOULD WORK IF BOTH HAVE DIFFERENT SPEED TOO.

yes but make a not of the kind of ram you currently have (most likely DDR) and its front end speed. You should get the new RAM DIMM of greater than or equal to this speed.

No, it wont work. Both ram boards have to be the same size. Also, you need to make sure that it is the same type of memory as the other, AND that your motherboard accepts that type of memory.

there is a risk of getting hanged ...... it is recommended that u should place the extra ram equal to original or less than it....... it gives u best result , it is my own experience.
