My computer mouse is acting up. It doesn't seem to want to move the pointer on the screen. I think it needs to be cleaned, but I dont know how to do it. I was wondering if anybody could give me some suggestions on how to clean it.

I do not understand why people have to answer serious questions with really dumb answers like the ones below. If you are going to be smart when answering a question, then DON'T ANSWER it AT ALL!! This was a serious question that I would like an answer to, and some of the answers did not have to be mean or sarcastic!! I find that immature, and dumb! Grow up!!

yes, take a q-tip with isopropyl alcohol on it, and the mouse has a ball on the bottom of it, the ball sits in a little cradle, use the q-tip to clean it with the alcohol, u may also be able to remove the ball and clean it with a soft cloth dipped in the alcohol
remove the ball by turning the circular cradle door it sits in counter clockwise until it drops open, be care ful not to lose the ball though.. hope that helps also if you want to clean the contacts the ball rests against u have to remove the ball and then use the q-tip to clean all the contacts inside the mouse. dont get the q-tip too wet when cleaning the contacts, just damp is enough

do not use a wet cloth.

instead get some q-tips and alcohol. unscrew the botom piece and remove the ball. clean the ball with the alcohol and then put some of it on the q-tip and lightly scrub the contacts inside the hole. make certain no fibers from the q-tip are in there when you are finished. you can buy a kit for this. but they use the same thing as i just described.

It doesn't do any good to do this if you don't also clean your mouse pad with the alcohol and a cloth.

always wash your hands before using your computer and you'll have to spend less time cleaning it.

alcohol will desolve the oil and dirt the mouse picks up from the air.

another tip. if you have a tower computer. do not put it on the floor. the dirt kicked up in the air by your feet will go right into it. place it up on a table or desk to slow this process down

Just get the ball out. Then look inside on the black and white rollers. You'll see right away the dirt on them. Grab a small knife or a some kinde of pick. Scrape the dirt off and shake it out of the mouse. Put the ball back and csrew in the bottom.

Better yet get an optical mouse, they don't require any cleaning ever.
Good Luck.

ok for a track ball mouse there is a twist to open the housing take out the ball take a q tip and clean around the four nodes on the inside then clean the ball itself use some alcohol if necessary (Isotropol not your beer) the put it back together. The fuzzies usually get in the tracks and If you have a optical mouse sometimes fuzzies get stuck and affect performance just get a q tip up in there to get them out also.

Take off the lid and take out the ball inside. Get a couple of q-tips and use rubbing alcohol to clean the inside. Clean the ball too.

Unscrew the bottom to release the ball. scrape off the dirt on the rollers inside the mouse (there should be two big rollers and a small one on a spring).

Were the little ball is on the bottom of your mouse , you should be able to unscrew it. then you will see little wheels in there . All you have to do is scrap them off with a tooth pick and that should be it OK

no dont wet the ball. take the ball out and get tweezers or something pointy and scratch off the buildup on each of the three tracks inside. That works best.
