Instead of you downing the American team you should be giving them a hand clap and a well done for even making it as far as they did. Consider this for a long time we never seen the American Soccer team get into the FIFA tournament and that is an extremely good accomplishment for them. As for me I am proud of them for making the effort to be there and for showing the rest of the world that America does and do understand soccer. And if they the American team continues then the more the public will grow.
So for you, I think that you are a cruel person to say something like that, instead of encouraging them you are downing them, how would you feel if someone would do you like that or say that your son or daughters team shouldn't have been in a championship game and that they were not in the same league as everyone else? It wouldn't feel good wouldn't it? As a matter of fact you would become very angry so angry you would want to do something about it.
My advice to you is stop downing and start encouraging.

Because unfortunately the FIFA World Cup put together team from all geographical areas (is in fact an interest of the sponsors) .. I think that a system like in hockey is better. Then I don't see in the first 16 any team outside (Europe and South America) but then you will have in First World League the really best teams

Its because every part of the world has participation in the world cup. and they did well in north american part. Thats why some asian and african countries participate in world cup too even if they are not as qualified and a strong team as greece and coulombia are left out of the world cup because people from all around the world has participation... Other wise it would be something like World series in USA... hahaha where most of the clubs are in USA...

it really saddens me that the USA team sucks so miserably, after watching them play in this World cup I was amazed that they even managed to tie with Italy. On top of all how in the world did FIFA rank them fourth or fifth in the world is beyond my understanding. Go England haha :) But to answer your question why they are in the world cup is because they qualified like everyone else, don't ask me how LOL.
To comment *warlands* opinion on How America doesnt care about Soccer like the rest of the world--- America is the only country that doesnt follow soccer and it saddens me it is such a beautiful sport.

Because they earned the right to be there. Besides, who doesn't want to encourage any country to earn a spot. Even those of us who are hardcore avid fans of a certain team have to admit that its hard not to want to cheer on the underdog. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Australia and Ghana. Besides, what fun would World Cup be or why even have it if the same teams always won. Its the possibility of a Cinderella story that has the potential to shake up the competition.

The US team qualified respectively... So it doesnt matter if they cant compete at the world stage level... However the US team has shown promise and this is only because the US team has been funded very well compared to that of the Canadian and other south american teams.

The American team qualified by winning thier group in the North amercan conference. They deserve to be in there as much as Togo or Ukraine or even England.
