no, why are players awarded with penalty kicks, and why are players awarded with free kicks? for example, does a yellow card mean one thing, and a red card another?

# In a Free Kick (direct or indirect) the players can locate themself at least 9.15 meters (10 yards) from the ball (permit by the laws of the game) and the ball is place where the offence occurred.
• So the defenses players try to make it more dificult to the offense team to score, so they form a barrier between the ball and goal.
• A offense player can get inside the barrier, because the law of the game permits him to be at the same distance, so they try to create holes in the barrier, to make it easier to score.

# Penalty kick: the players can locate themself at least 9.15 meters (10 yards) from the penalty mark, but they have to be outside the penalty area, that's why you see them infront of the goalie, but behind the penalty kicker.
After the ball is in play (after it is kicked and moves forward) and if it is repel by the goalkeeper or the goalposts, we have that:
• any offense's player have the opportunity to try to score (except the player who kick the penalty, he can play the ball only after it has been touche by another player)
• any defense player will try to avoid a score.

The Fouls and misconduct are penalised as follows:

AWARD A PENALTY KICK
A penalty kick is awarded if any offences award with a direct free kick is committed by a player inside his own penalty area, irrespective of the position of the ball, provided it is in play.

AWARD A DIRECT FREE KICK
#A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following six offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
• kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
• trips or attempts to trip an opponent
• jumps at an opponent
• charges an opponent
• strikes or attempts to strike an opponent
• pushes an opponent
#A direct free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following four offences:
• tackles an opponent to gain possession of the ball, making contact with the opponent before touching the ball
• holds an opponent
• spits at an opponent
• handles the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)

AWARD A INDIRECT FREE KICK
#An indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a goalkeeper, inside his own penalty area, commits any of the following four offences:
• takes more than six seconds while controlling the ball with his hands before releasing it from his possession
• touches the ball again with his hands after it has been released from his possession and has not touched any other player
• touches the ball with his hands after it has been deliberately kicked to him by a team-mate
• touches the ball with his hands after he has received it directly from a throw-in taken by a team-mate
#An indirect free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player, in the opinion of the referee:
• plays in a dangerous manner
• impedes the progress of an opponent
• prevents the goalkeeper from releasing the ball from his hands
• commits any other offence, not previously mentioned in Law 12, for which play is stopped to caution or dismiss a player

What planet are you from? Penalty is given if a foul is committed inside the penalty area (that is the larger of the two box shaped areas marked around the goal) and no-one other than the goalie can stand in frount of the player taking the penalty kick - if oust side of the penalty area then a free kick is given and the opposing team may put a wall of player sin frount of the one taking the free kick.

There are occasions where a free kick is given inside the penalty area (but they are very rare).

Every one prepared, but those preparations help, but the fear of putting down your team, fellow players, country men is the most feared factor. Players who are cool and not nervous will all make the penalty kicks. This is a nerve cracking moment. Brazil, Germany, Uruguay, Paraguay, Spain, Argentina, Netherlands and Ghana.

If the ball is deflicted by the goal keeper the player from the opposite time still have a shot to make a goal. It's like a free through in basketball
