Which one?
Advent Children is a sequel to the game FF: VII. All the characters are back trying to save the world...again.
Spirits Within is a new story about some scientists who have to save the world. It's not related to any of the games in the series.

Two movies:
In "The Spirits Within": Dr. Aki Ross and Commander Gray Edwards work together to try and gather 8 Spirits that will help combat an evil (known as Phantoms) that has infested the planet. Meanwhile, the general - General Hein, plans to eradicate the Phantoms with physical force, which only damages the planet and speeds up the Phantom growth. With only a team of soldiers known as Deep Eyes on their side, Aki and Gray risk everything they can to save the planet.
In "Advent Children": Three guys intend to find the head of an ancient entity that had once terrorized the planet - JENOVA. With the head of JENOVA, they intend to bring back a legendary swordsman, Sephiroth who will lead the planet as a vessel into outer space - dominating all life that comes in their way. A group of old friends, led by Cloud Strife must stop them.

If you are talking about the "spirits within", it wasnt really about "Final Fantasy". There were only 3 references to the game.

Final Fantasy: The spirits within
Is about invisible spirits that basically kill people when they touch them, dont btoher seeing it, its a really crappy movie.
Final Fantasy 7: Advant children
Is about the FF7 characters fighting off a new sephiroth

which one? the Advent Children or Spirit Within? spirit within was a complete waste of time and i dont think anyone actually got it... cool graphics though. Advent Children was about Cloud looking for a cure to a disease which was killing a lot of the people of his land, including himself, while battling his brother for a spirti called MOTHER

The chars from ff7 have to fight off new enemys that try to bring back sephiroth, it is really good if you liked the game.
