if its called "father's day" and "mother's day" then why do husbands and wives buy something for each other? shouldn't it be children giving their father or mother something and their parents giving (who would be their grandmother or grandfather) something?

The husband is honoring the fact that his wife is also the mother of their children, and vice versa. And of course children also often honor the holiday with a gift for father or mother.

I think it's because it is for all mothers and fathers not necessarily your mother and father. If there is someone special in your life that happens to be a mother or a father then you get them something if you want to, even if it's just a friend of yours.

You make an interesting point, but it's usually the mothers/fathers with the money to buy those presents ;) lol

yup, thats something really striking! I guess that the wives and husbands know themselves better than children do and above all they have the $$$! But, really that also strikes me odd

i think husbands and wives give each other cards and gifts b/c they are grateful to having that significant other person as the other parent to their children.

You have a good question. Normally the parents buy the gift because the children our to young to have the money to buy a gift. Now if the children are teenagers or older then they should buy the gifts themselves. Hope this helps.

They give each other presents because they have children together. It shows they are greatful for the other helping them have a child.

I think it is to honor the fact they they ARE mothers or fathers and not so much as because they are YOUR mother or father.
