Blackeye suzies, coreopsis(member of the sunflower) and mexican primrose.I lived in the hot desert for many years and always had great luck with these. They are all considered annuals but do reseed themselves easily so they come up year after year. Coreopsis comes in a double Flower variety and gets about 12-24 inches tall. blasckeye suzies are a Little shorter and the mexican primrose is about 10-12inches, so you can do a stair step with all three for beautiful color. They are very heat resistant and are bothered by very little pests, once they are established ---no work except for the cut flowers you can bring inside!
God Bless

Daylilies love heat and are fairly low maintenance. They come in every color but blue and black.
Rose of Sharon is another one that is easy. They grow on bushes and they smell great.
Canna love heat! Depending on where you live, you have to dig canna tubers up on the fall to put in your basement but otherwise no maintenance. I really like the Tropicanna. The leaves look very jungle like and the orange or yellow flowers are spectacular.

Echinacea or Cone-flowers are great. Lantanas are also fabulous. I grow both in NE Texas, and just barely add water during the droughts. I'm also having good luck with coreopsis (a yellow daisy-like flower).

Sedums are very good in hot, dry climates. They come in taller varieties and low growing varieties and all difference foliage colors including variegated. They flower at different times of the years but look good all growing season.

Begonias are great and come in a variety of colors. Savlia and marigolds are good choices, also. Coleus are not flowering, but have beautiful leaves- my favorites are the maroon/red leafed variety.

Mexican petunias, butterfly bush, lantana, pentas. Just make sure that you water them every week or so. These are what I have growing in my flower beds here in Florida. The Mexican petunias aren't as big water hogs as regular petunias.
