My brother's PS2 isn't working properly. Every time we put in a disc, it says "Disc Read Error", even if it's a new game. We tried cleaning the disc's and blowing the dust out in the back of the game system. My little brother is driving me and my mom crazy with this. Any suggestions would be nice. And PLEASE HELP ME KEEP ANY SANITY THAT I HAVE LEFT!!

go get a hammer. take the thing outside. lay it on the concrete driveway or sidewalk. take the hammer and smash the thing into oblivion. that will most definitely take care of the problem.

The exact same thing happened to me. I thought it was the end. Just go to any electronic store (Circuit City, BEst Buy, Fries, etc.) and ask for a lens cleaner. Just pop it in and everything should be fixed. Trust me, it'll work. These people have been saying to send it in or buy some booklet.
The lens (which reads disks) is obviously just dusty. The cleaner shouldn't cost more than 20 dollars.

Go on eBay and search PS2s. There's a guy who lists an eBook for only $5 that guarantees to teach you how to repair your own system easily and without having to purchase special equipment, or your money back.

The booklet really works!

I think the problem is with the laser. Well you have two and a half choices:
1. give it to a technition to fix it for you
2. buy the "how to fix you ps2" book from ebay or your local book store, I think you might be able to borrow it from your local library also.
2.5: I don't think it'll help it BUT put a laser cleaner CD into the PS2 drive.

Hope this helps.

Many PS2's have problems with colored disks. I'll bet you're trying to play a game with a colored disk. Stick to the silver ones.
You can tell what color the disk is on the back of the game case.
Good luck.

P.S. Sony denies this problem however it is true.
