Who grades how accurate stock anaylst recommendations are and do certain investment firms perform better then others?

No, still now there is no monitoring authority to check the truth og Stock anlyst.There are some good and some bad . It is really difficult to find out Which is biased analysis and What is unbiased.
Go through the analysis in Yahoo Finance,Morning Star,MSn Money....But dont just go blindly eith any of the analyst.
Do some fundamental analysis before Investing.

If a analyst is true, then also You will be the last peron to get the analysis, Before u get it all the Institutional Investor will get it .....And remember analyst is rarely himself a investor...So there is nothing for him to loose if tha analysis is wrong.

And regarding Investment farm dont go only by name..all the big name are not always the best performer.

Google morningstar dot com. it list a lot mutual funds and their ratings.
