I personally like Tony Hillerman, he writes mystery books that take place mainly on the Navajo Nation.
Aimee & David Thurlo are also good, they have 3 different series out, The Elah Clah books, those are about a lady that was a FBI agent, but is now a police officer, these are mystery as well. Then they write the Lee Nez books, about a navaho vampire ( I like these the best), and they have a series called the Sister Agatha books, I have not read this series yet.
If you like funny books, you might want to check out Tamar Meyers, she has a series called the Penn Dutch Murder Mysteries. They take place in an Amish community, but they are really funny, as a bonus every 5 chapters there is a receipe.
Lillian Jackson Braun is also very good, she writes the Cat Who...series which is about a guy and his two cats and the different murders that they solve together, it's really quite interesting if you have cats, because she often personifies the cats.
I hope this has been of some help, good luck on finding some good books!!

My favorite mystery writer is Ruth Rendell. Start with "A sight for sore eyes", or "The Crocodile Bird". Her mysteries are excellent, they are very intellectual and psychological. They have great twists. Excellent reads.
