Dear naive one:
In my opinion, you should revise your question if you want one to answer it. The correct revision of your question would be "What is the fastest running animal?". Have you ever heard of grammar classes? If you are asking me what the fastest animal on earth is, I assume it is the cheetah( unless there is an faster animal that man has not yet discovered). Cheetah comes from the Hindi word meaning "spotted one" and/or from the Sanskrit word, "chitraka".
Being one the fastest known terrestrial(terra=earth)animals, the cheetah can travel about 60 miles per hour. If you do not remember what your pedants taught you at school, I highly suggest that you take a vitamin supplement called "Mega Memory". To my knowledge, it does not hurt to try new things. I have completed my job of educating you. It is interesting to note that to my knowledge most seven-year-olds know that the cheetah is the fastest land animal.
Good bye.
Sincerely,
Clark

The Cheetah (derived from Sanskrit word Chitraka meaning "Speckled") (Acinonyx jubatus) is an atypical member of the cat family (Felidae) that hunts by speed rather than by stealth or pack tactics. It is one of the fastest of all land animals and can reach speeds of up to 64 mph (103 km/h or 29 m/s) in short bursts up to 500 yards (457 meters).[2] The cheetah is well known for its amazing acceleration (0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds which is faster than the SLR McLaren, the Lamborghini Murciélago and the F/A-18 Hornet).

If speediest means absolute fastest, then chetah.
But, if speediest includes a time component (ie, the animal that covers the most ground that fastest), then the "speediest running animal" is :
THE NORTH AMERICAN PRONGHORN
The cheetah is built for quick speed bursts; the pronghorn is built for speed endurance---how about 50 mph for miles, and miles, and miles.....
John Byers, a Zoology prof that works with pronghorns, said that if you lined up all the worlds land animals to race, the cheetah would pull ahead very quickly, but within a mile the pronghorn would leave EVERYONE behind.
