So I live in this nice section of Akron, surrounded by Metroparks and whatnot, and I went outside in my parking lot (I live in a nice apartment complex) and I saw these teens smoking pot and being rebellious in their vehicle.

I let it slide.

THEN, they came back the next day, and we're doing it again, so I called the cops.

I feel old (I'm only 25), but I also feel like I wanted to keep this place nice. Did I do the right thing by getting them arrested?

I feel like Charles Bronson in Death Wish by getting rid of the "undesirables" and standing up for good, honest people.

Lawbreakers thrive when law abiding citizens are afraid of 'causing trouble'. I'm perplexed as to why you feel even a shred of guilt for doing what's right for your community.

If people like you do nothing, then the scum gain greater footholds into your community, eventually driving you out into a more desirable neighbourhood. Never apologise for driving them out first.

When I was 23 I called the Cops on my own Sister (I am not even kidding).

She wanted to illegally use a certain Liscense Plate that had belonged to my Grandparents but she didn't care because her own Plate was confiscated and she needed to take Friends home (her Liscense was suspended so she wasn't even suppose to drive in the 1st place, she could have called another Friend to give them a ride).

I go into my Bedroom and my Sister busts the Door open (not only is that not going to get me to change my mind, it's going to make me super super Mad and believe me I was indeed mad).

I was about ready to bonk her on the Head with Poster Tube cause I was never ever going to let my Grandparents Liscense Plate be used at all, my late Grandmother would have been furious at my Sister big time, my late Grandmother would have been on my side in the matter too.

My Sister finally got out of the way and I told her I was calling the Cops and she went outside of the House yelling "go ahead and call the f***ing Pigs."

She did that in the wrong neighborhood cause 2 members of the Village Council live in that Neighborhood (one is a former Police Chief, the other lives next door to me).

A Lady across the Street has a Cop on the Police Dept, also in the Neighborhood is a Township Trustee (his Wife is Community Education Director in the School District) and a County Commissioner is in the Neighborhood as well (she is currently Chairman of the County Board of Commissioners).

My Sister left before the Cops could come, since no one was assaulted there was no way anyone could get arrested but I did file a Police Report on my Sister.

My Parents were not happy about this at all but quite a bunch of people feel I did the right thing.

I know I did the right thing myself

Well, you let it go once, which is more than some people would have done. If you feel bad about it, in future, you could go out and ask them to go somewhere else. I don't think it's so bad, though. If they're dumb enough to break laws out where people can see them, then you've probably done them a favor by teaching them that this is stupid while it still won't wind up on their record after they hit eighteen. Better to learn this now, especially since the last time I checked, your area has some pretty draconian laws.

About feeling old- I've known how you feel, since I was about sixteen. If you have responsibilities, you can't always be frivolous yourself, or even condone frivolity in others if it effects you. Only cure I have found is to make sure that you don't get too worked up over little things, and go out once in a while to do stupid things you don't think you have time for.

Well, NO! These kids were doing illegal things, if you hadn't stop them who would? In our society, some of us are taught to see but turn away. It's good that you did that, because it shows that you cared, and who knows those kids might of influenced other kids to do it too, therefore destroying this generation even more. Besides they should know better.

Don't feel bad and certainly don't feel old. Think what would happen if everybody let everything slide.
