You have a valid argument. (And I am not in favour of drugs, to make that quite clear.) There are many bad substances that are legal, and others are not. It is all down to political blindness, or at best tunnel vision.
If the now illegal drugs would be legalised, the criminal element attached to them would fall by the wayside. Just as it did in 1933 after the prohibition of alcohol was lifted. Never has there been more alcohol consumed in the USA (for very high prices) as during the prohibition years. That should tell us.
Unfortunately our politicians never learn anything from History.

Yes, tax it already. Last study showed it didn't even cause cancer.

People don't remember or know that there was a film in the 50's that demonstrated people that smoked pot went bezerk and wound up in hospitals mindless. It was that single film that all the attitudes about it came from and why our legislators made it against the law - without any basis for any test case.

Whether you smoke it or not, do you know anyone on pot alone, cuz anything could cause you to escalate, killed someone's brain and they ended up a vegetable? With all the history we have on it, where do they send all the mindless zombies?

Give me a break. And i don't smoke pot.

Um,. excuse me. Mistake of legalizing alcohol? Do you mean the ancient biblical people who drank wine right through forever? Or the Congress for repealing prohibition because of the crime it caused, including bringing Al Capone to power?

Elloit Ness was asked what he would do when booze was legal. He said first thing he's gonna do is take a drink.

Give me another break!

It's that lack of knowledge of history and not being aware of the issues around you that scare me on how people can lose their citizenship rights in Congress right now and they still believe Congress is representing and doing everything for them, their constituents.

On becoming dead: I've known people that smoked pot all day long for 60 years since the 50's. If anything it's helping them now in their older age!

Can I get a THIRD break?

I'm outta here.

OK - the guy above me is right - the 30's, want to see the films?

If you want to know exactly why alcohol is legal why marijuana isn't is because alcohol is a multi-billion dollar business. The lobbyists for the alcohol and tabbaco companies give millions of dollars to politicians for "campaign funds" in return the politicians leave alcohol and tabbaco alone as much as possible.

And the main reason marijuana is illegal in the first place is because of the completely false propaganda films used in the 1930's to justify giving funds to support the branch now known as the DEA. These propaganda films portrayed marijuana as a drug that poses a threat to the American way of life. They claimed that one puff of marijuana would make you "hopelessly addicted" and also could make you "insane" and go on a killing spree.

In fact, the man who was responsible for getting marijuana illegalized initially thought that marijuana was beneath him. He considered it a weed that didn't matter. But he used it's abundance, it used to grow wild on the shores of the Potomac, as a reason to give his agency more money. He just created all of these lies about the dangers of marijuana to make it illegal.

It's about time the government revists this law. It's about as absurd as the laws that state you can't park your horse on the north side of the street after 3pm.

Marijuana is illegal because the LAW says it is. On the same token, the LAW states that alcohol is legal in some jurisdictions and not in others. Alcohol is NOT universally legal! There are still plenty of DRY counties and cities in the US.

If you wish to see MJ legalized, work towards changing the LAW.

The main justification for outlawing marijuana is that it is a gateway drug; as soon as it is legalized, people begin asking the same question about cocaine, shrooms, and other more harmful drugs. Alcohol is legal because it is far to difficult to keep it illegal, just look at how well prohibition in the 1920s turned out.

Because pot is a drug that, unlike alcohol, even when used in moderation alters the mind and is harmful.

Also, even though it has been proven to have some medical effectiveness under certain circumstances, it could never be approved by the FDA due to the harmful side affects of being a smoke inhalant.

In layman's terms, one toke from a joint alters the mind and is harmful whereas one beer is not.

Alcohol does a lot more damage than society will admit to for some reason. Pot is just a killer of the mind.

VERY GOOD QUESTION!
If ALL leaders smoke a bit of the good stuff before making laws, and taking decisions, there WILL be peace in the world.
And marijuana is NOT addictive!
LEGALISE!!!! CONTROL!!!! REGULATE!!! TAX!!!!!
And spend these taxes on EDUCATION!!!
