I'm writing an essay about girl's winter clothing and some of the challenges they had managing it. I want to back up memory with facts.

rubber galoshes with fake fur lining that only came up midcalf
actual good leather boots
no boots
grey rubber galoshes with a weir nubbly button thingy and a rubber band-like loop to hook over it

I would imagine that the war would've had an impact on the materials the boots were made out of.

If you can get your hands on, say, a Sears Roebuck catalog from that time, there should be at least some images of them, although there won't be much about what it was like to wear them.

I'm trying to remember that far back..... i remember we had to wear them OVER our shoes...... they were hard to take off, you had to push on one heel with the toe of the other foot to start the process,then sit down and start tugging with both hands to loosen the boot enough to pull it off.
