Although many would love to see Charles get passed over, and William become King, the order is such that Charles has to assume as he is the oldest male son of the Queen, as well as Prince of Wales...a semi-pre-requiste to assuming the throne. Abdication by Charles is unlikely in that his great Uncle The Duke of Windsor, formerly Edward VII is still very fresh in the minds of the Royal Family. The Duke is blamed for the early death of the Queen 's Father the late King George, so the chances of Prince Charles abdicating for William is highly unlikely...so we will have to put up with a King Charles and a Horse Faced Consort before Prince William has his day in the Abbey.

Prince Charles. It's the role he was born for, it's something he's prepared for his entire life and it's tradition. I also think he would make a very good king. Prince William will have his turn, but he isn't ready for the job. What 20-something to do you know that can be trusted with something as huge as being monarch, even a figurehead monarch as the case may be? People should give him time to find his footing before slapping a crown around his neck and casting him into a role he isn't ready for just because they're still pouty that things went badly with Diana.

I prefer William's youth and personality, but I will have to say Charles. Simply because he is next in line. I like things done in order. Hey, let's not jump the gun yet! Our lovable Liz is still above ground--she may be for many a year--let's not decide the issue now!

In all likelihood, they will both be king - Charles when Elizabeth II dies, and William when Charles dies.
