There are two main reasons teens runaway from home. They are either running AWAY from something or running TO something.
I know the first seems redunant, but teens who are running away could be running away from anything. It could be an abusive situation at home, it could be feelings of alienation or lonliness. It could be poor situation at school, lack of friends, fear for the future, or any of the other hundreds of things teens go through every day. A teen may be bullied and harrasessed by their peer group and their parents never know it, not becuase the parents are not involved or do not care, but because the teen is embarassed and confused and feels unable to open up to his or her parents. So to blame running away on the parents may be a cop-out. The child still has responsibility for his or her own actions. We also have to understand that developmentally speaking Erikson has teens (12-18) int he Identitiy vs. Role Confusion stage of development. The very question of "Who am I?" regulates their being. During this stage adolescents turn away from their parents and more to their peer groups to answer the underlying focus of thier life. While their parents still play an important role, How often have you seen a teenager be completely into something one and then hate it the next. Changing fashions, changing interests, and changing hairstlyes as well as changing peer groups all go together with the question "Who am I?" WIth this incomplete sense of self, it is very easy for a teenager to feel alientated, different, or unworthy. This can help cause a teen to run away, as the teenager is, in a sense, trying to escape themself.
The other reasons teens run away is that they ar running TOWARDS something. We have all heard of the small-town girl who left home her senior year and moved to Hollywood and became a superstar. The idea exists that it is possible, so many teens will run away because they believe they will be making something of themselves and that they just can't wait any longer to do so. The running towards somehting isn't always running towards a goal though. Television, movies, and music sensationalizes the gangsta lifestyle, and this is enticing for many middle class suburban teens who feel their life is not only boring but are also scared of the seemingly-predetermined path their life will take. The idolize the criminal element as portrayed in certain movies (such as Vinn Deisel's character in The Fast and the Furious) especially when the bad guy has some good in him. More than this though, music videos, music, and movies often sensationalize bad guys giving them a sense of freedom and coolness, that the children do not have in their own life. So sometimes children will run away to join one of these groups because they perceive it as them becoming free, not realizing how restrictive a criminal or gangsta lifestyle really is.

definite, I ran far off from domicile as a baby, yet I never were given any better than the important positioned up workplace in the small city that I grew up in. i'd sit down at the front steps and cry. i'd continuously finally end up returning again domicile. when I were given older and married, I actually are transforming into in the vehicle, at the same time as i replaced into disenchanted and brought off and merely drove round and round, with music on, wishing i ought to save going and not bypass again. yet I knew i'd could go back domicile because of responsibilities-to the youngsters etc. So I actually have never, ever made it faraway from domicile, both as a baby or as an grownup, even although i wanted to flee.

Children run away for many reasons. Most reasons are associated with abuse and bullying.

Sadly often children run away from home not because they are abused or bullied but because they feel bad about one thing or another, blame themselves for situations that may or may not be their fault. So they try to run away from home when in fact they are running away from their actions or themslves and it doesn't work out.

Lots of reasons. One may be a desire for independence. Another reason may be mental illness. Others leave because they are being neglected or abused.
