I would like a smaller used one, I have never owned one before and I like the style of the older BMW's and similiar. I would only want to spend around $2000-$3000. Any suggestions on years makes and models?

There is NO BMW that is suitable for a bigginer. I say this due to their size and weight. Take your money and do not stray above 500cc. This leaves only Japanese bikes. also do not buy anything older that 1985. a VERY good beginner bike is any year GS500, light agile and not too powerful. it is easy to handle.

I have had many bikes, an older BMW, a slash 5 or /6, CS,or RT should do you fine, they are very reliable and about the right price $1800 $3000. Not real fast but you DO NOT WANT FAST WHEN YOU FIRST START RIDING. Brit bikes look cool and break All The Time, vibrate so bad parts fall off. DO NOT BUY ONE FOR YOUR FIRST BIKE! ---/5 MADE IN 60'S--/6-- IN 70'S---CS,RT are models

Might want to look up a Royal Enfield. They have the cool old styling and don't cost that much
