Don't use sugar or caffeine.

Use sugar, blood sugar goes up=want cigarette. Half hour or so later bloodsugar drops=want cigarette.

Use caffeine (usually a good time for a cig) get wound up=want cigarette. Crash a few hrs later=want cigarette.

The more stable you keep your day the fewer urges you'll have.

Try doing things that won't let you smoke, shower, walk in the mall, go to the movies (you get the idea).

Stay away from the people, places and things that you associate with smoking.

If you're not on any prescription drugs, you might want to try Tyrosine, an amino acid found anywhere vitamins are sold. Great way to fight cravings and depression. 1000 mg every three hrs taken 1 hour away from a meal. A B-50 complex twice a day is a great way to combat the mental effects of stress.

Good luck.

I am not a smoker, but like trying to quit any addiction you have to take it one day at a time. Don't think about how you are going to do it tommorrow, just get through today. As for how to fight the urge, try avoiding things that make you want to smoke and maybe try a patch. It is not an easy thing to do but you will be a lot healthier in the long run and think of all the money you will save! Good luck.

Well done and keep the spirit alive. I am very happy about your will power that you have quit smoking. Tobacco is a very dangerous substance on earth. The God has created this plant for medicinal use but people around the globe have taken it in a different way for their own pleasure and intoxication. When you smoke, the tar enters your lungs and keeps accumulating there like plague. In a long run, it blocks the veins and reduces the passage to accommodate more oxygen into your lungs and you can suffer from short of breath. The bad effect of smoking is well known factors for many kinds of cancers and other diseases. In the first place, I must say that you are inviting biggest trouble by wasting your money, time and health. It affects others in the family also. You stain your teeth too. Since, you have quit smoking, please be away from such bad habits and live your precious life gifted to you by the Almighty by doing some good deed in life. Be a proud child to your patents and Society in general. The animals know the bad effect of tobacco and hence never ever enter a tobacco field to graze. You will never find animals eating tobacco leaves in tobacco field. I smoked for 25 years and stopped the bad habits in one day without looking back. Now, I enjoy a healthy and stressful life. The money spent on smoking is also saved. My family is very happy now and they are really proud of me. You are at liberty to write to me on close2health.com, in case you need some more help. Good luck and best of health.

It took me a whole summer to quit. I feel you.
I basically tried to keep my hands busy most of the time. I learned how to knit and crochet. (That takes up a lot of time!)
Also, I made sure that when I got the thought to smoke in my mind (especially after eating!) I would purposely begin a conversation or I would count the change in my pocket. Alot of it was not so much the urge physically, but it was more mental.
Put it this way, when you really WANT to quit, you will.

I will not smoke in the room where my computer is. I don't want the tar and nic crud on it, and stale smoke makes an unpleasant environment for others. Besides, it's in my bedroom. Golden rule: no smoking there.
I find that when I am on the computer a lot, at YA, or a game, or whatever, I don't even think of a cigarette. So my best suggestion is to set up your computer where you do not smoke, and then lose yourself in something interesting on the computer.

Well, when I quit smoking, I started putting a dollar into a big jar whenever I felt I needed a smoke, but instead did something else. It quickly grew into a new stereo for me. As well, avoid the places where you'd usually go to smoke. Try doing something else, in a place where smoking is forbidden, and have fun with someone.

I smoked for 20 years....i looked in the mirror one day and thought about how fast I was aging.I gave up ciggerettes and with the money I saved I had my teeth bleached pretty white.Everytime I wanted a smoke ,I would look at my teeth and smile ;) I bought better creams for my face and I look great! After meals and in the car,I chew orbit white gum and the urge goes away. Its all about how I look and feel.I wont ever smoke again.

My husband and I just quit last year and we used very strong mints. The stronget the better. When you put it in your mouth give it a few seconds and breath in through your mouth and you can feel the mint air go into your lungs and it in a way feels like smoke.
