Or does it depend on whether you're wearing it in the day or night?
My wife insists that wearing black will make me feel hotter but I'm thinking at night it should make me cooler since it helps dissipate heat faster and there's no sunlight so it won't absorb the heat.

Please help me out so I don't have to give up all my black t-shirts!

You are correct. The dominant effect with a black shirt in sunlight is absorption of energy. At night, there is minimal incoming energy, so the dominant effect is radiation of energy. A dark object under an open sky (without clouds to reflect infrared energy back) can get considerably cooler than the surrounding air.

Well I wear alot of black and it does make me hotter but it makes le look smaller. I think your wife might want you to have some color in your life. Black is all gloomy looking which is what I like about it but not sure if you do. So if you like black you could match it with other colors to keep cooler

In the sun, black will absorb more light and make you hot.

I can't see why black would dissipate heat faster when not in the sun than some other color though. (Maybe I'm missing something.)

However, if your wife is trying to get you to wear different colors, perhaps SHE will feel hotter if you do! :-) We do like our guys to spiff up for us now and again.

It does make you feel hotter, but only in sunlight.
The reason for this is that black is a radiating colour. It holds heat, where as white would reflect it away.
Wearing black clothes to bed would not be any warmer than wearing pink ones

Well wearing black in sunny day is not good idea, you must have seen arabs wearing only white!!
Dark colors in sun light attract/absorb the heat while light colors don't so dark colors in sun get hotter than lighter olors, but without sun both are almost the same.

Tell her that since black absorbs heat and as long as you keep moving, you are constantly walking into a cooler air space that your black shirt had recently absorbed.

hi,
ya black will make you feel hotter
the reason is that black has the tendency to absorb the heat incident on it . infact black absorbs upto 95% of heat incident on it, whereas white on the other hand reflects 95% of heat incident on it so black is used in solar ovens .

so wear ur white shirts if ur feeling hot

Black naturally attracts heat in the day when the sun is out. White is the best to keep cool, because it does not attract the sun.

wearing black does make you feel hotter. I once wore a pair of black canvas shoes to a fair, and it felt like the tops of my feet were burning. I had to take them off and go barefoot.
But hey, just try it for yourself and see!

the colour black will take up the suns rays, at the same time as lighter colorings mirror it. you does not decide to positioned on black on a great warm day, the black could take up the warmth. I propose colorings like white, yellow, or gentle pink
