Sometimes a card is given for barely touching...other times a player is clobbered and no whistle...

Shouldn't the level of officiating be as high as the level of competition?

Just now Pavel Nedved ran over Essian and Essian got the card? Makes no sense.

Yes, a whole lot of the uncalled fouls are just amazing. I mean, I've seen some bad officiating in watching Baseball, and horrible when it comes to football, but I mean, the guy that got a red Card on CZE just now, and the yellow card that just got given. He hit the ball full on...

Some of the offsides are extremely close too...

These refs just aren't being consistent at all... it's too bad too...

Yeah... referees are the weak bit in football. Referees can and have changed in a major way the outcome of entire major tournaments. The classic example was the final of the '98 World Cup and the 2002 World Cup when, for some reason, all referees fell in love with the South Koreans rendering the 2002 WC what one commentator said on British radio regarding the bias towards South Korea ---- "..this has become a Mickey Mouse World Cup... now two perfectly good goals by Spain disallowed in favour of South Korea".
