No. The key word here is "give". If you are to loan the money to someone, you have the right to ask for collerial or the purpose/use the money will be used. A gift of money should go to the family/organization for their needs. We all have different needs and should not stand in judgement of another person's idea of what is needed for the family/organization. It would be unwise to give a 13 year old 10,000,00; ergo be wise in your giving as well as being generous and humble.

I think there's a big difference in giving to an organization such as the United Way for instance, and giving to your local Thrift Store or Catholic Charities. The United Way is diversified in their contributions and withholds funds from Boy Scouts because of a technically political issue. I would not give to the UW simply based on that fact. The Red Cross on the other hand, is also diversified in their contributions but I know of no political agenda that they support. Because of that - I do donate to the Red Cross and don't really care how they disperse the contributions. Same with Catholic Charities and the Thrift stores. When they get my contributions, I trust them to regulate the funds as they see fit. So I guess the answer to your question is, if you donate to an organization, the money becomes their responsibility and is no longer your concern. You have the choice of who you contribute to. If you disagree with their policies or agendas, you don't have to contribute.

I don't think you should dictate to anyone less fortunate, if you give them money and it's for drugs or it involvessomething illegal or something that could hurt young children never give them money again unless it's through a charitable oranization. We can't say what is important to them, and sometimes when you give with strings attached its a power trip on your own behalf When you give it, it's a gift, and a gift is something a person receives and then does what they want or need to do with it. If you don't like what they do with it do with and you feel the need or your able to give, give to a registered charitable organization they alway need help and you'll feel great about yourself at the same time. Even if it volunteering time.

If it is YOUR money that you are giving, you have every right to dictate how it is spent, if you wanted to. It's your money. You could give to the less fortunate in a way that it could only be spent on a specific thing like food (food stamps). You can not buy alcohol or cigarettes with food stamps.
Listen, if someone needs money to live, why should they complain about how they are told to spend it. If they are able to spend it in a way that meets their basic survival needs, then what is the problem. When one EARNS their own money, then they can have more say in how it is spent.
I'm not trying to be mean to anyone who needs monetary assistance. I just think that it is a bit out of line to be upset that if is money given for help, it had to be used in a specific manner. Really, if they don't agree with having rules attached to the money, they don't have to take it.
It's good to help people in need. Help is something we do out of the goodness of our hearts, it's not mandatory. So, if someone wanted to dictate how money given it to be spent, oh well, take or don't take it, just don't complain about it.

well, if you give someone money, then once you have done that, it is no longer yours, so you no longer have a say in what they do with it.
If, on the other hand, you feel like maybe they wont make a good decision on spending it, you can buy a house for them instead of giving them enough money to buy a house. or a car or whatever it is. giving a gift instead of giving money.

There was a great Everybody Loves Raymond episode about just that. Ray gave his brother 1000 dollars because he was in need and then when Ray heard that his brother was taking some trip, he got upset about it. I agree with you. I think that once you give, it is theirs to spend. You should give because you want to help and give, at that point, you are done. No more control.

Absolutely yes. The "less fortunate" do not have a problem of not enough money. They have a problem of dysfunctional values, poor decision making capabilities and suspect morals. Not only should you compensate for this by telling them what to do (with reasonable consequences to enforce your wishes) you have a duty to do so. Failing in your duty will result in intense suffering not only for them but for the rest of society and yourself.
You can either, give out welfare on the contingency that they get a job, get educated, obey the law, don't do drugs and don't have many children in abusive relationships with criminal scum. Or....
You can watch as they starve to death, spending all the money you give them on crack, while mugging, murdering and raping your neighbors and yourself. To add insult to injury, you hold a significant amount of the blame because you were too cowardly to assume your natural leadership role over them. They relied on you to take care of them and tell them what to do and you were too much of a pussy to do it. SHAME ON YOU.
Choose which one of these outcomes you want wisely.

I wouldn't DONATE to any organization that I felt needed my help deciding where the money was spent. Before I chose to give to that organization, I would look at past spending records and then decide if it were worthy of my hard earned cash.

Once you give a gift it is up to the recipient to use it as he sees fit. If you don't like it, don't give him anymore gifts. I would be upset if I gave money to help someone and they spent it on alcohol, drugs, or some total waste.

Unfortunately most people do.
And this indicates that rather than giving something to someone, what many persons do is to justify a way to manipulate others.
