the handle that is used to turn the water on and of in my bathtub falls off and it's annoying (especially it's not my house). i need to fix it without giving my money to the plumber. i know it's something simple and inexpensive to do. any help or advice?

Take handle to Lowes, they will match it for you and just replace it. One screw holds it in and this screw is located under a pop off tab on top of handle.
Your existing handle is stripped.

Just go to the hardware store and ask how to do it. In my experience if you get a staff member who knows what they're doing, they are more than happy to offer advice.
