You can patch the carpet. Get sample copy of the carpet you have, find a carpet store and get a close a match as you can, then patch the damaged area. Of course you have to measure the area to see what size you will need.
Tell the carpet salesman what you plan to do, because you will also need either some glue, thread or some other way to mend the area, and that will depend on how large the are is.
I hope this has been of some use to you, good luck.

There's a carpet repair tool that takes a 4" circle out around the burn. Then you use the same tool to cut a circle from a scrap or the inside of a closet.
The new circle fits perfectly with glue and the pile should blend right over. Lowes or Home Depot can show you the tool.
Otherwise, get an xacto knife and cut the burn spot out...then cut fibers from other places in your carpet...where it isn't noticable...glue the fibers where the burn was...this one is much more time consuming.

Remove a small piece of carpet from one of your closets and use it as a patch. After you cut out the damaged carpet, use it as a template to cut the donor carpet and the simply switch the places using carpet tape. You can buy carpet tape at any Home Depot or Lowes. This will work fine as long as you make sure that you shampoo the carpet in the repaired area after your finished.
Good Luck!!!

Got some spare carpet of the same?
Cut a square out around the burn, and then replace with a new piece. You will have to stick it down with carpet spray (glue in spray)
You have lots of spare, take from under the couch, bed or where ever ISN'T seen!!!!
It'll do until you buy a new carpet

If the carpet is old, or in a heavy traffic pattern, even if you use a piece from anywhere, like a closet, it will still be obvious. Color will not match, aside from pile distortion.
Can you place a rug over it?
No other alternatives that I can see, but new carpet.

I did that once, If the burn is just on the surface, do what I did, take a razor and shave it off.
