Avocados can self-pollinate, but they'll set a very low number of fruits. For a decent yield, the avocado needs to be cross-pollinated from other avocado trees. Pollinating agents are bees, wasps, flies, and hummingbirds, with bees being the most significant.
"You need a type A and a type B avocado to pollinate each other. It
doesn't take much. If you've got a Haas, get a Bacon or a Fuerte.
The problem is that most of the B's are green-skin varieties. If you
don't like them as well, you may see if you can get hold of a Marvel
or Noble. These are not generally available, but are more Haas like
than most.
"The other thing is that you need bees. If there's been any spraying or
anything to disturb them, plan on hand pollinating if you want
anything.

"Finally, sometimes Avocados just have an off year. Just make sure that
it's fertilized properly and not over-watered. That's the worst thing
you can do to an avocado. "

Trees can grow fruit as early as 3 - 4 years old, sometimes later. Cross pollination is best, so you should get another tree if possible. Usually bees pollinate the trees, but some birds also do that - not as good though. The two links below will give you a great deal of information on your tree.

Avocado trees are male or lady. think approximately a male. Apple trees many times are the two lady and male, yet many times won't produce fruit except "go-polinated" by yet another apple tree.
