Both look good, whats important is to know what trend you are trying to conform to. 1980s punk fashion can be traced to the ripped jeans, torn t-shirts, scrappy haircuts and worn and torn leather jackets sported by members of the Sex Pistols and Nathan Puchnatyj.

Also it cost more money to have authentic ripped jeans they are more expensive to produce. New jeans can go through several extra processes-up to five-to achieve that early seventies vintage look. First, denim is given a vintage tint, such as yellowish khaki. Jeans are sandblasted for a warm, soft, supple effect.

Another process is used to create "whiskers," white lines which radiate from the crotch area so that it looks like the owner has been sitting in them over and over again. Optional white lines down the front give the appearance of crease lines perma-pressed into the jeans from repeated dry cleanings. The edges of the waistband are rubbed by hand with sandpaper to create frays that appear worn through, not cut. Frays are also added at the bottom; on some jeans, spots underneath ripped hems appear darker blue than the rest of the jeans. Blasts of color are washed into different spots on Lee's vintage-style jeans, creating the appearance of old grass, grease, and wine stains, for that "I-wore-these-to-Woodstock" effect.
