I was laid off from my corporate america job of 5 years once the company went through a reorganization about a year ago. About 2 years before being given the door, I was charged with a DWI. Now, I am having a heck of a time procuring employment. I should, and, could be a consultant in my field, but, the state regulates the licensing, and, says that I am not eligible for my consulting license for another 2 years due to the DWI. For the record, I fought the DWI as long as I could without it interfering with work, or, my parenthood (single dad). I've been told that companies look at DWI's on a case-by-case basis, and, that misdemeanors shouldn't disqualify me. I've only had one offense in my nearly 40 years of living, it just so happens mine was a DWI, and it's costing me big time. Any advice, and/or, ideas on where to turn are greatly appreciated. You may want to consider a home business that is very inexpensive to start and can be built over the 2 years you are waiting to get your license back. This would take a few months to build but would net you residual income. This way you work for yourself so you can take advantage of tax breaks as well. I am finding great success with it and enjoy doing it.
