There's a neighbor kid who lives a few houses down from us because his parents are totally EVIL! like i.e. they threw every single item that he owned in the trash can because he didn't want to go swimming. He was grounded for half a year because he left a pencil on his desk. His parents underfeed him too. He has talked to my mom about being disowned and coming to live with us, which she said was fine, but i want to help and find out the process and how to start it for him! PLease help!

First I would tell your mother to call the local children and youth services on the parents right away. That will start the paperwork/legal trail against the parents and will get the boy some help. Then I would recommend she calls a lawyer that deals with minors becoming emancipated. He is being abused and needs help so your family is doing the right thing by trying to help him. If he has any siblings they will need help to and that is also where Children and Youth services would come in. You don't say how old he is by I'm sure he has been emotionally damaged by this and would benefit from counseling.

He has to talk to a lawyer, there is a huge legal process involved. But if he has no solid evidence of abuse or neglect it will be very difficult to get an emancipation. You don't just take children away from their parents unless the parents are certified losers.

although i know from my own childhood experiences what that is like - i don't know the legal system but i just wanted to say how glad i am that there are people out there like you (and my foster family) who are ready willing and able to offer a home to a young person from a difficult background

I am sure if you can sort something out that you will have the joy of watching this youngster blossom over time
