A lot of it is nutrition. Their diet is highly based on rice and grains, and thet does not allow for a people to reach tehir full genetic potential.
Look at the historic rates for height and you will see that in all countried there has been a trend towards taller. Look in your history books for the average height of a male in the US. You'd be surprised.
Wait a few generations and the Asians who have adapted their diets will be just as tall as the other races.

It could be genetics, environmental factors, etc. There are just some questions you just don't have an answer to, and saying generally small is wrong because the majority of Asians aren't small like you say.

I imagine it's a combination of both. If you have the genes to grow to 5'6" but don't get proper nutrition, you might only grow to 5'2". You do have tall Asians, but I think the average height for men in many Asian countries is about 5'7" or so (don't quote me on that). But the more Asians you meet, the more you'll realize that there are varied heights and body types too.

It's the results of evolution. Giraffe grew it's neck longer to reach leaves on the top of the tree for survival. We Asian went smaller since we found more efficient way of getting things done - using our brain, instead of using brute force. Can't say that for the other races :)

I think its due to environmental factors. My first cousins living in the West are of bigger frame. Everyone else in the family living here are of small frame. I think you tend to adopt a different diet to survive in a different climate and your body grows at a different rate.
