sure. Slow stretch exercises can rewarm the sore muscles and soothe the ache. That is why you are sorest in the morning, the muscles have constricted. Gentle massage can help as well. A mild painkiller (tylenol, advil) can help a little. Submerging your body in a WARM bath and then increasing the temperature works wonders as well.

In the future, you may wish to do some stretching exercise before a strenuous workout. These get the muscles ready for a serious bout of basketball. For now, try a warm shower or bath. After you've dried off and cooled down from the warm water, use a good muscle rub. Yes, Ben Gay does work. But if you use it too soon after a warm shower, it can burn. Try a good anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen. That will reduce the inflammation in your muscles. It will take a couple of days, but you will survive.

Sounds like you have a good deal of lactic acid build-up within your muscles, which results in cramps and soreness. What I recommend is more exercise which will actually work out the soreness . . . but this time go easy (ie: go for a walk, stretch, etc.) and then build yourself up to more aggressive physical activity.
Also, since you had not worked out in a while, and really challenged your body, you might want to take an ice bath (soaking in cold water and a tub full of ice . . . and yes, it acutally works!). At the very least, soak in really cold water as you want to decrease whatever swelling, and the other affects of trauma caused by 5 hours of basketball.

Hello...That conditions is partially in our control, and I know some proven remedies from my own experience. First really give yourself a good relax, take a "contrast" shower(that is when changing warm with cold or lukewarm water). The severity of the pains will be alliviated within hours with the proper intake of Ibuprofen 500mg(that is the generic name, available in every pharmacy),taken after a plain meal in every 3 to 4 hours.I am sure that will help you to cope with the most of the pain and also will relax you a little bit more.YOU NEED ALSO A LOCAL MEDICINE( BUY VOLTAREN,DEEP RELIEF ETC)..Both contains pure Ibuprofen, with other components like Menthol. If you can't find them in the pharmacy just tell the pharmacist that you need:A GEL THAT REDUCES INFKAMMATION,PROVIDING EFFECTIVE,LONG-LASTING PAIN RELIEF..If you can also been massaged it'll; be of help(but no mirracle)..If the pain after taking the presribed dosage is not alliviated contact me..Good luck!!

You sound like you need electrolytes, the ionically charged minerals that enable your body to perform basic functions, i.e intercellular communication. I would take a product called "Trace Mineral Drops," by Trace Mineral Research, a concentrate of sea water (99% sodium reduced) which has 72 trace minerals. You can feel a difference within a day, in most cases. These are minerals we need to be healthy, and are unfortunately not found in any of our foods.

Proper hydration, normal salt intake, normal food intake, heat packs. Before doing any exercise, be sure to properly warm up. NSAIDS such as ibuprofen and naproxin sodium OTC will provide some pain relief
