I do not talk in slang and have not done so for a long time Even when I speak to people who speak heavily in slang I do not do it. I don't object to their use of slang but I think it more or less expresses generalities rather than specifics. As a result, people who speak heavily in slang gradually will find it quite difficult to clearly express what they really think and mean and therefore are much more subject to misunderstanding. If you avoid slang you are forced to express yourself more clearly and by doing so, you begin to understand yourself better also.
Here's and example:
A friend asks you to go see a new movie. You tell the person you already saw it. The person says he's going to go see it anyway. You say "Whatever!" The conversation ends. In this context "whatever" is really slang, the meaning of which is difficult to tell. Now what did "Whatever" really mean. Did it mean OK you want to go anyway? Maybe, maybe not. Or did it mean you are angry because the person is going to go see it anyway, even though you already saw it and the person just asked you to go with him or her.see it, and you are not going to go the movie with him?

Occasionally I do use slang but it depends who I'm with. For example, some words that we're so used to, I would say it in front of both adults and teenagers my age.
I use slang, because I've seen it on TV shows such as The OC or One tree hill etc. and also cos I guess I'm a teenager and slang is probably the trend.

Slang is too trendy. Same as wearing baggy pants that expose the upper 50% of ones undergarments. OK, slang has its place if you're trying to talk in public about things you probably shouldn't be talking about anyway- so that others don't understand- like pig latin... or speaking a foreign language thinking others don't understand... or if you're in da mob and you're planning on rubbing out someone.... Slang does become normal after awhile... and morphs into common usage. I don't like using it- it almost as bad as cuz, wuz alwayz c ub actually with so many cultures and languages customs assimilating i nto one... there are slangs of slang too confusing for most folk.

No, no, no...I leave the slang to the Gen-Xers. I'd rather use real English words, in full sentences, to get my point across. I don't think those who do use slang realize how moronic they can sound at times. It's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.
Sorry, but to educated people, slang is a lazy way of communicating

I don't use much modern slang due to not knowing what most of it is. But I use a lot of slang from my generation, and I've made up a lot of my own slang. I mean, I started saying "that sucks a$$" before I'd even heard of Southpark, or wherever that one originally came from.

I use some slang only cuz I know a limited number of 'slang' phrases...
Some slang is cool and some is just nasty and grimmy and some is just downright mean...

Sure I do when appropriate, I hang out with alot of teens so its easy for me to pick up on.
For my family its more fun to find replacement words for old slang & cuss words. Like now at home, instead of saying "Darn" we say "Snap!" Or instead of the "F" word we say "fiddle-diddles" or something like that. Its a contest to see who can be more creative & usually funny and it makes us more conscience of what we're saying & how often.
