Yes and no, I think it depends on the person just as much as it dose on the job market. Some people even though they are very computer savvy having a IT type job might just drive them crazy. Sometimes it is better to make $40,000 a year and love your job then make $100,000 a year and be miserable.

Given that over the past 10 years the majority of BAs in science were awarded to women and yet only 10% of scientists working in their filed or academia are women, it seems that this is more a question of discrimination than motivation. (see last month’s times) However, I can think of two things that would help – require everyone from tutors to principals, administrators to test prep and teachers, to undergo math science and IQ tests and cut this cancer out. Secondly, I would require a strict reading of our constitution that we shall not promote religion and stop handling ignorance with kid gloves. People have culturally assimilated the idea now that everyone’s beliefs are equal, which is why there are people who don’t ‘believe ‘ in global warming, evolution, or that the earth is not the center of the universe. That needs to be addressed by refuting and then passing over outmoded religions in the classroom. A great big ‘sorry you’re wrong and your parents are too’ in the 2nd grade would work wonders. If I have to go back and explain the wheel and fire to every college student only to have them open their yaps and say ‘I don’t believe in pollution’ we’re not going anywhere in the future. I suppose we can also blame our more balkanized and nepotistic society- since it benefits the stupid, and stupid people don’t like/ understand basic scientific principles and take refuge in their ‘faith and beliefs’ instead. On a cultural level we can stop acting like these things have some intrinsic value. However, on every news station we end up mocking science or having some politician or celebrity talk about their beliefs. Is it any wonder kids aren’t interested if the field has no future (for girls) and for all children their years of study can be nullified by a simple line from the most ignorant of human detritus saying, “well, I believe…”

There are a lot of fields of technology....Biotechnology, Computer Technology, Automotive Technology. What are you thinking of going into? I think the Science field in stem cell research is the new up and coming venue for good paying jobs. Any field of technology, whatever field that is, would be better than taking classes to become any form of a secretary, no matter how glamourized the title, such as, "Administrative Assistant, Stenographer, Coporate Secretary, Executive Assistant to the CEO," or whatever...it all boils down to being a slave as a secretary while the boss gets the credit. Do your OWN thing, get a REAL degree, and make some real money...whatever field you choose. Good luck.

Yes, technology is here, and its here to stay. If you are not into technology, you will be out of the game in a few years. I think investing your future in studying computer technology is a great idea to get you into the business. The more you learn the higher paid jobs you can obtain.

Having been in the industry since 1974, I have seen many of US jobs go overseas whether it's programming, support, chip manufacturing or whatever.

My advice, do what you like. Don't be afraid to be a "blue collar" worker as there isn't any way that someone in a foreign country can build a house, do plumbing work or whatever along those lines. And, someone in those industries can make (and do) a nice living.

Good Luck in the Technology Industry! Most of the jobs I know of in Technology are being sent out of the US because companies are finding they can have work done cheaper elsewhere.

I worked for a Fortune 100 Company (Insurance Industry) for 10 years in IS/IT at the Corporate Level. It's unfortunate our current government is giving many companies the incentives to send our jobs overseas and leaving many of us without jobs. I loved my job, and love technology...as it is an ever changing industry and NEVER BORING! Hopefully our government will stop giving companies kickbacks to send our job overseas!

Within the Computer Industry it is not worth pursuing because there is just so many people that are already in it. But what is worth pursuing and investing in is the medical industry just because there is such a HIGH DEMAND.

The problem with technology as a career is that you have to keep working and learning or you will quickly fall behind and your skills will be useless. If you like learning then its a great career to pursue.
