I've heard a few things about promise rings, but mostly that they are promises to get married in the near future. But my girlfriend, who i want to give one to, has received one from an ex that they would be faithful and true to each other. I mean I am in love with her and would want to someday marry her, but we are still both only 18, going to school, and only been together for about 6 months. So my question is 1) will she take a promise ring as a promise of engagement in the future and 2) will it mean less to her since she has already gotten one in the past and it didn't work out?

well she doesnt' still have the ring he gave her before, i guess she gave it back after they seperated so its nothing like her still wanting to remember him
also, i have hinted at the idea of a promise ring, and she has told me many times that she wants to be with me forever, it just still seems early in the relationship for me to promise marraige...but i do want to let her know that i am all hers and will be 100% faithful

You tell her what it signifies for you as to question one...and I think that every relationship is different, so she shouldn't have a problem separating her past from hopefully her future!! Good luck!

Promise rings mean many things, ask her what it means to her. He is her ex for a reason. The fact that she still has the ring is probably just a sign that she wants to remember something good from her past, not the guy.

A promise ring can also mean that she will wait for you while you are gone away. and by her wearing that promise ring she has made a promise to stay faithful and not to date with other people while wearing the promise ring. I hope that helps!!

Wait until your ready to give the engagement ring.....She knows you really care for her after 6 mos........but promise rings are just that.....made to be broken.

it doesn't necesarily mean pre- engagement, idont know about you my friend, but as for me, its a sign of my FAITHFULLNESS, that i would never ever cheat on her, and if we brake up, it would only mean it did not work out, not because of cheating...
